You know the feeling. You spend forty-five minutes smoothing your hair in front of the hotel mirror. It looks perfect. Then, you step out of the lobby doors and boom.
The humidity hits you like a wall. By the time you get to the Uber, that sleek style has started to swell.
Here in Miami, we deal with a unique beauty challenge. Between the salt air from Surfside Beach and the heavy humidity rolling off the bay, regular hair styling just doesn't hold up. If you have a gala at the St. Regis or a dinner reservation at The Surf Club, you can't rely on a standard blow-dry.
You need a strategy that actually seals the hair cuticle against the elements.
By Guy Ifrati, Master Stylist at LAHH Salon
At LAHH Salon, we see this panic every day. After twenty years of styling for events where women need to look camera-ready outdoors in this climate, I've learned exactly what it takes to weather-proof a look.
When a client sits in my chair at our Surfside location, the first thing I ask isn't "how do you want it?" It's "where are you going?"
The venue dictates the survival strategy for your hair.
The Boat or Yacht Party
If you're heading out from the marina, wind is your biggest enemy. A loose, bouncy blowout will look messy in ten minutes.
A client named Daniela booked with us before her husband's birthday party on a chartered yacht last summer. She originally wanted that classic voluminous blowout she'd seen in magazines. I talked her into textured waves instead, and she texted me photos later that night. Six hours on the water, and her hair looked better in the evening photos than it had when she left the salon. The wind actually enhanced the texture instead of destroying it.
For boat days, we recommend what we call "The Beachy Bend." We use a curling wand to create textured waves that actually look better when the wind messes them up a bit. We finish with Oribe's Dry Texturizing Spray, which gives it grit and hold without stiffness.
The Outdoor Wedding or Garden Event
If you're attending a wedding at the Botanical Gardens or an outdoor venue in Bal Harbour, humidity is the main threat.
Go for sleek and straight or a polished low pony. We use anti-humidity polymers (think of it like a raincoat for your hair) that repel moisture. Oribe's Impermeable Anti-Humidity Spray was practically made for this. It keeps the look sharp and intentional, even if it's 85 degrees out.
The Gallery Opening or Indoor Gala
Indoor AC allows for more freedom, but you want volume that doesn't fall flat after two hours.
This is where we do what I call the "Model Off Duty" look: lots of volume at the root, round-brushed ends, and a flexible hold spray. It moves naturally but bounces right back into place. The Davines More Inside Flexible Spray is perfect for this because it doesn't create that crunchy texture.
We keep all of these products in our retail section if you want to pick up what we used on you.
Planning a bachelorette party or getting a bridal party ready is stressful. I've seen maids of honor trying to coordinate six different appointments at three different places. It's a nightmare.
That's why our Surfside location (LAHH Blow Bar) is set up specifically for groups.
Last month, a bridal party of eight came in before heading to a rehearsal dinner at the Faena. The maid of honor, Sofia, had tried to book at three other places but couldn't find anywhere that could take everyone at once. We got all eight women styled and out the door in under two hours, and the group photos looked completely cohesive because we coordinated the technique across the whole team.
Here's how we handle group bookings:
Note: If you're the bride and need a complex updo or veil placement, we usually recommend booking at our full-service Bay Harbor location for a more private, detailed session.
We have two spots for a reason. Our Surfside location is our express hub, perfect for blowouts, beach waves, and quick styling before a night out. It's right near the shopping district, so it's easy to pop in.
However, sometimes a blowout isn't enough.
If you have a black-tie event requiring a structured updo, or if your color has faded and needs a gloss refresh before a big event, you'll want to visit us at Bay Harbor. That's where we handle the heavy lifting: extensions, color correction, and intricate bridal work.
Think of Surfside as your "get ready for dinner" spot, and Bay Harbor as your "total transformation" destination.
A great blowout is an investment. You want to get at least two or three days out of it. Here's how to make it last past the event.
Can I come in with extensions?
Absolutely. We specialize in extensions. Whether you have tape-ins, hand-tied wefts, or keratin bonds, we know how to navigate them carefully so we don't cause slipping or matting. Just let us know when booking so we add a little extra time for the extra hair density.
Do you take walk-ins for event styling?
We try our best to accommodate walk-ins, especially at Surfside. However, on Friday and Saturday evenings, we get booked up fast with the dinner crowd. If you have a specific time you need to be ready by, calling ahead is always safer.
How long will my blowout last in this humidity?
With the right products and proper technique, most clients get a solid two to three days. If you have extremely textured hair, we might recommend a specific anti-frizz treatment add-on to guarantee that longevity.
I have a boat party. What should I book?
Ask for a textured beach wave or a braided blowout. These styles look better as the wind hits them, rather than looking messy.
You have the dress, the shoes, and the plans. Don't let the Miami weather ruin the look in the final hour.
Whether you need a quick refresh after a day at the beach or a full glam session for a wedding, we're here to make sure you walk out feeling confident about how you'll look all night.
