Most extension content stops right after the install. You see the before and after, you see the price tag, and then you are left figuring out the rest on your own. That gap is where people run into problems, skipped appointments, unexpected costs, and extensions that do not last as long as they should.
At LAHH & Co., we think the full picture matters. So here is everything that happens from your first consultation all the way through removal, and what you should realistically expect at every stage.
A lot of salons treat the consultation like a quick chat before they start selling you a service. That is not how we approach it.
When you come in for a consultation at LAHH, we are doing an actual assessment. We look at your natural hair density, your growth pattern, your scalp health, and the current condition of your strands. All of that determines what method is appropriate, how much hair you need, and whether your hair is ready for extensions right now or whether it needs some preparation first.
We also talk about your lifestyle. How active are you? Are you in the water a lot? Do you heat style daily? How much time are you realistically willing to spend on maintenance at home? These are not small talk questions. They directly affect which method we recommend and how we structure your care plan.
Then we talk about your goals. Length, volume, or both. How dramatic of a change you want. Whether you are open to color work to help the extensions blend. What your timeline looks like.
By the end of the consultation, you should leave with a clear method recommendation, a realistic picture of what your hair will look like, a maintenance schedule, and transparent pricing. No vague estimates. No surprises at checkout.
Once you have your plan, the installation appointment is where it all comes together. Depending on your method and the amount of hair being added, this appointment can run anywhere from two to five hours. This is not something to rush.
IBE (Invisible Bead Extensions) installs involve creating rows using your natural hair, placing the beads, and then applying the wefts. The process is methodical because the row placement determines how the extensions sit, move, and grow out. A rushed install shows.
Great Lengths keratin bond extensions are applied strand by strand. This is the most time-intensive method because individual bonds are placed throughout the hair for a seamless, natural result. The precision required is exactly why we invested in Great Lengths certification training.
Bellami tape-in extensions are the fastest installation of the three. Panels are sandwiched around sections of your natural hair. The speed does not reflect the quality of the result, it is simply how the method works.
What happens after the install matters just as much as the install itself. We walk every client through a home care routine before they leave the chair. How to wash, how to dry, how to brush, which products to use and which to avoid. This is not a pamphlet we hand you on the way out. We go through it together so you actually understand it.
This is the part that surprises people most, and it should not. Extensions require regular professional maintenance. Not because salons want to keep you coming back, but because your natural hair grows and the extensions need to move with it.
Skipping maintenance appointments does not save you money. It creates matting, puts tension on your roots, and can cause damage that costs significantly more to address than a standard move-up appointment would have.
We are not going to make you dig for this information.
Move-up and maintenance appointments are priced based on the method and the amount of work involved. As a general reference:
When you are calculating the true investment of extensions, factor in both your initial install and your annual maintenance visits. A client doing IBE with appointments every 7 weeks is looking at roughly 7 to 8 maintenance appointments per year on top of the initial install. That is the honest math, and we would rather you know it going in than feel blindsided six months later.
Your extensions will tell you when they need attention. Here is what to watch for:
Any of these is a signal to get in sooner rather than later. Waiting until the situation is uncomfortable almost always means more work at the appointment and more stress on your natural hair in the meantime.
Extensions and color work together really well when they are handled correctly. At LAHH, we do extension-safe color services that are designed to blend your natural hair with your extensions seamlessly.
This includes toning your natural hair to match the extension color, glossing for shine and vibrancy, and in some cases, balayage or highlight work that creates a lived-in transition between your natural hair and the added length.
What we do not do is apply color directly to extension bonds or tape panels without accounting for how that affects the attachment. Certain color processes can weaken adhesive bonds or alter the keratin in Great Lengths attachments. We know how to work around that because we were trained specifically on it.
If you are coming in with extensions from another salon and want color work done, we will assess the current condition of the attachments before touching anything. That assessment protects your investment and your hair.
If you read generic extension care guides, most of them were not written with Miami in mind.
The combination of humidity, saltwater, chlorine, and consistent heat exposure accelerates a few things that affect extension longevity. The hair itself can dry out faster without proper moisture maintenance. Adhesive-based methods like tape-ins are more vulnerable to bond weakening from chemical exposure. And the general wear from an active, outdoor lifestyle in this climate means more friction and more environmental stress on your extensions than someone living somewhere with mild weather and low humidity.
When your extensions have reached the end of their cycle, professional removal is not optional. We see clients occasionally who have attempted self-removal or gone to an inexperienced technician for removal, and the results are consistently bad. Torn hair, damaged bonds, and in some cases, significant breakage that takes months to grow out.
At LAHH, removal is done with method-specific solutions and techniques that dissolve or release the attachment without pulling or stressing the natural hair. We also do a full condition treatment after removal to replenish moisture and assess the health of your natural hair before deciding on next steps.
If you are planning to go right back into a new set, removal and reinstall can often be done in the same appointment depending on the method and the condition of your hair. We assess that at your move-up appointment before your final cycle so you can plan accordingly.
Using the right products between appointments is truly one of the biggest factors in how long your extensions last and how good they look throughout their cycle.
We stock extension-safe professional products in our shop that are specifically selected for the methods we use and for Miami hair. Sulfate-free cleansers, bond-safe conditioners, humidity-resistant finishing products, and heat protectants that work at the temperatures people actually use.
We are specific about this because the wrong products truly cause problems. Silicone-heavy products can cause slippage at tape attachment points. Alcohol-based products dry out weft hair faster. Heavy oils near the root area cause buildup that makes maintenance appointments harder and can stress the scalp.
We go through your product routine at your install and at every maintenance appointment. If something is not working, we will tell you.
Clients who get the best results from extensions are not necessarily the ones who spend the most. They are the ones who stay on their maintenance schedule, follow their home care routine, and communicate with their stylist when something feels off.
At LAHH, we track your extension history. We know what method you are on, when your last appointment was, and how your natural hair has been responding. That continuity matters because it means we catch small issues before they become big ones.
We also have real conversations with clients when something needs to change. If your lifestyle has shifted and a different method would serve you better, we will say so. If your natural hair needs a break before the next set, we will tell you truly even when that means less revenue for us.
That is the kind of relationship we are building with every client who sits in our chair.
Whether you are brand new to extensions or looking for a salon that actually keeps up with your hair the way it deserves, the starting point is the same.
Come in, let us assess your hair, and we will put together a plan that works for your life in Miami.
