Hand-painted balayage that holds up to Surfside sun, salt air, and pool days.
Surfside is a beach town. That sounds obvious until you watch what happens to balayage that was not painted with this climate in mind. Salt water, chlorine from the pool, and the kind of UV exposure you get walking back from the ocean at 96th Street will turn a generic balayage into a brassy, patchy mess inside three weeks. We see it every season.
LAHH Salon is 5 minutes south on Collins Avenue from the corner of Harding Avenue and 96th Street, which means you can be in our chair before lunch and back in Surfside before the afternoon heat sets in. We have built our balayage technique around what real life on this stretch of Collins Avenue actually looks like.
Balayage is a French word that means "to sweep." Real balayage is painted onto the hair freehand, section by section, by a colorist watching how the light will hit each piece once it grows out. It is not foils. It is not a generic ombre. The placement is custom every single time.
The problem with most "balayage" you see in Surfside is that it was rushed. Five-hour appointments turn into two-hour appointments. Strokes get sloppy. The colorist applies too close to the root or too far down the lengths, and three weeks later the line of demarcation looks like a cap. We work in long, slow appointments because the painting matters more than the speed.
Our clients live here. They walk to the Surfside Community Center on 93rd Street, Bal Harbour Shops just to the north, and the quiet stretch of beach near 96th Street. They go to the beach on weekends and the pool on weekdays. We design hand-painted color that fades the way it is supposed to fade, soft and sun-kissed, instead of the orange flare-up you get from cheap toners that wash out in a week.
Emily Safran-Wands, the owner of LAHH Salon, has been painting balayage for over a decade. Her colorists train under her directly. Every appointment includes a real consultation, a tone plan, a maintenance plan, and a Davines bond-building treatment to keep the hair healthy through the lift.
A first balayage at LAHH typically runs three to five hours. We discuss your goals, your maintenance budget, and your real life (the beach, the pool, the sun). We map the placement on dry hair before we touch a brush. The painting itself is unhurried. We tone, we gloss, we cut, and we send you out with a take-home routine that fits the small-town pace and beach access that makes Surfside feel like a coastal village inside Miami-Dade.
Touch-ups run every 10 to 14 weeks for most clients. Quick glosses every six weeks keep the tone fresh between full appointments.
Price varies by hair length, density, and existing color. Every quote is given before we start so there are no surprises.
Bring a sulfate-free shampoo home. Use cool water for the first 48 hours. Wear a hat at the beach for the first two weeks while the cuticle settles. We will give you a printed care card and the exact product list we used so you can replicate the result at home.
Other services Surfside clients book at LAHH: hair color and corrective color, hand-tied extensions, keratin smoothing, blow dry styling.
How long does a first balayage take?
Plan on three to five hours. The painting itself is the slow part because we work in small sections. Toner and gloss go on at the end. We do not rush the chair time.
How often do I need to come back?
Full balayage every 10 to 14 weeks. A quick gloss between full appointments every 6 to 8 weeks if you swim or tan often.
Will balayage damage my hair?
Lightener is a chemical service, so technically yes. We minimize damage with bond builders inside every formula and a Davines treatment at the end of every appointment. Real hand-painted balayage spaced 12 weeks apart is one of the lowest-stress color services available.
